Group Programs

Best Start Clinic provides a range of Group Therapy Programs, conducted by qualified Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Educators, Counsellors and Autism Therapists.
Children, young people and parents may attend our groups as a stand-alone service or may participate in groups as a part of our other services. Many of our groups are suitable for children and young people on the autism spectrum. Medicare, DSS and private health insurance rebates may apply.
Social Skills Group Starting school means making new friends. Help your child develop skills and confidence in social situations so that the transition to prep is a positive and enjoyable one. Social Skills groups run by qualified Psychologists, Speech Pathologists and Occupational therapists run Social Skills groups at Best Start Clinic in Brighton from October to February for groups of 6 children.
Cost: $25 per session (50 minutes). Rebates may apply, reducing the cost per group to $4.
Best Buddies dyad Best Buddies matches your child with another child with similar social, communication or play needs. Run in weekly one-hour sessions across 6 weeks, children work on individual or mutual goals, facilitated by a therapist. Children may then continue on a further 6 week block, if desired. Anger Management group This evidence-based intervention program using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy aims to teach children to regulate their emotions and effectively manage anger. The group is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 years and runs in 2 hour sessions across 6 weeks of each term. Parent information is also provided. Anxiety group This evidence-based intervention program using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy aims to teach children to understand and regulate their emotions and effectively manage anxiety. The group is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 years and runs in 2 hour sessions across 6 weeks of each term. Parent information is also provided.
‘Peaceful Kids’ Mindfulness group Peaceful kids is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based program designed to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children. The program also involves parental involvement and commitment to supporting the strategies at home.
ASD pre-school group This small group program supports children in expanding social, play and learning skills from a therapist and one peer to a small-group setting, in order to assist with the demands of participating in a large pre-school group, such as kinder.
ESDM group This group is suitable for children on Best Start’s full or parent ESDM programs and follows the principles of the ESDM and your child’s goals in a small group setting.
ASD parent group Parent groups assist parents in understanding a diagnosis of ASD, self-care, managing life transitions and the stressors of intensive intervention.
School Readiness School Readiness groups run throughout Term 4 and the summer holidays to help develop skills needed for a successful transition to school.
Pre-Reading Group Good phonemic awareness, understanding the building blocks of words, is required for children to be successful readers. Prepare your child for prep by enrolling him or her in a phonemic awareness group run by a qualified Speech Pathologist, running at Best Start Clinic, Brighton tarting Thursday 29th of September 2016 at 2:45pm. Pre-Handwriting group When children start prep the jump in time spent handwriting can be a large one. Especially today with children spending a lot of time on electronics rather than using their hands in craft and pencil and paper activities. Help prepare your child for the expectations of prep by enrolling him or her in a handwriting preparation group, run by a qualified Occupational Therapist, running at Best Start Clinic, Brighton starting Wednesday 28th of September 2016 at 9:30am .
